Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Las Vegas NV
239 AM PST Sat Jan 24 2026
.KEY MESSAGES...
* A weather system will bring one more day of slight chances of
light rain to the region today as well as gusty north winds.
* Quiet weather returns heading into the next work week.
&&
.DISCUSSION...Today through Friday.
A closed low pressure system will continue to push inland into
northwestern Mexico today as it phases with an upper-level longwave
trough digging through the Great Basin. The cold front associated
with this longwave trough will bring another slight chance of light
rain to the forecast area today, with best chances in Mohave County.
Additionally, gusty north winds will pick up areawide today, with
gust speeds generally between 20 and 30 mph. Gust speeds between 30
and 40 mph expected in the higher terrain as well as along north-
south oriented valleys, such as the Colorado River Valley. Ensemble
guidance indicates that locations such as Laughlin-Bullhead City and
Needles will struggle to exceed 40 mph, though hi-resolution
guidance is quite robust with 70-80% chances of exceeding 40 mph.
Regardless, speeds at or slightly exceeding 40 mph will be isolated
in space and time this afternoon, so no wind headlines expected.
Wave heights will range from 1 to 3 feet on Lake Mead, Lake Mohave,
and Lake Havasu, resulting in hazardous boating conditions for small
craft. Temperatures will bottom out behind the cold front on Sunday,
with afternoon highs 1-3 degrees below seasonal normals.
Ridging returns to the southwestern United States next week, which
will allow temperatures to gradually increase each day under mostly
sunny skies. High temperatures will range 4 to 6 degrees above
seasonal normals by Thursday. Expect persistent breeziness along the
Colorado River Valley as a result of periodic shortwave passages.

.AVIATION...For Harry Reid...For the 06Z Forecast Package...Light
and variable winds give way to northerly breezes tomorrow as a cold
front pushes through. Gusts of 15-25 knots are likely (70%) behind
the front. Winds gradually subside after sunset. Showers/virga
linger in the vicinity tonight, pushing off to the southeast late
Saturday morning. Scattered to broken skies around 8kft, clearing
out during the day Saturday.
For the rest of southern Nevada, northwestern Arizona and
southeastern California...For the 06Z Forecast
Package...Northerly breezes spread southward tonight and tomorrow
as a cold front pushes through. Gusts behind the front are
expected to be 15-30 knots, strongest in the N- S oriented
valleys. Scattered showers/virga linger primarily across
southeastern NV and northwestern AZ tonight, becoming more focused
in southern Mohave and southeastern San Bernardino counties
Saturday afternoon. Scattered to broken skies around 8kft,
clearing out from northwest to southeast on Saturday.

.SPOTTER INFORMATION STATEMENT...Spotters are encouraged to report
